Kokoro Kickboxing Club brought its boxing shows to Hyndburn Leisure Centre for the first time and it proved a success.

It was Kokoro’s 14th big event to date and the club worked closely with the Hyndburn Leisure Trust to provide quality boxing in a professional and enthusiastic atmosphere.

It was a great evening for Kokoro boxers with 11 bouts resulting in eight wins, two draws and one split decision points loss.

The main event was Shakeeb Ali’s defending of his EBF British lightweight title against Liverpool’s Billy Hatton.

A fast start from Shakeeb saw Billy on the canvas in the first round.

He also scored a knock down in the second and third rounds ending in a final knockdown at the end of the third.

The club, based on Dale Street, hope to do many more events at Hyndburn Leisure Centre with the next one being planned for late November this year.

However, Kokoro Promotions’ next event will be a sportsman’s dinner boxing event with Nigel Benn on 23 September, at the Dunkenhalgh hotel, Clayton-le-Moors.

There will be signing and photograph opportunities with the former world champion and a chance to hear the ‘Dark Destroyer’ talk about his career.

The event will also include a three-course meal, a charity auction and four quality boxing fights headlined by Shakeeb Ali’s second British title defence.

Kokoro are looking for local businesses who would like to be involved in sponsorship of the bouts or the whole event.

Anyone interested in getting involved is asked to call Jason on 07715 811646 or Shabir on 07970 347899. Tickets for the event will be priced at £50 each.
