Fight Rite Kickboxing gym in Rishton had three fighters in action recently.

Luke Ashton 27, a personal trainer from Oswaldtwistle, won the WKF light heavyweight English title against the previously unbeaten Danny Duggan from Parkgate Kickboxing Club, Sheffield.

After a well-fought contest, Ashton won a unanimous points decision in a bout which was awarded fight of the night.

He started martial arts aged 10 and has been kickboxing professionally for eight years and is unbeaten

However, after a serious arm injury four years ago – which required five operations – Ashton was told by doctors he would never fight again and went through two years of injury rehabilitation which made the title win all the more sweeter after defying the doctors’ orders.

Jordan Riley, also a fitness instructor from Oswaldtwistle, won the WKF 76kg English title against Chris Clarkson from Blackburn Kickboxing.

The fight started with Clarkson starting very quickly and strongly.

However, Riley’s superior movements and kicking skills proved too much for Clarkson when Riley caught his opponent with a left high kick.

A series of punches and kicks dropped him to the floor and after the referee administered the count, he deemed Clarkson wasn’t in a position to continue.

Riley also holds another English title with the WFCA.

Also fighting out of Fight Rite was 27-year-old Ryan Kelly from Bury who won his fight comfortably on points after dropping his opponent three times.

Kelly also fights semi-professional MMA out of Predators MMA in Manchester.

Ashton said:¿"On behalf of the fighters I would like to thank our trainer Gary Smith and the rest of the Fight Rite team for all their hard work and support."

All three fighters train at the Rishton gym under the instruction of Smith, and the gym has a further three champions in their respective weight categoriess.
