RUNNERS will be donning their trainers and getting ready for the Accrington 10k run which takes place this Sunday.

It is the 20th year of the event, organised by Accrington Road Runners, and it starts at 10am on Burnley Road, close to the Whitakers Arms.

Last year, despite torrential rain, there was a bumper entry of more than 400 runners taking part over the six mile event, which is sponsored by Forbes Solictors, and the club are hoping it will be repeated this year.

It is a testing course with racers charging up Burnley Road turning left at the Griffin pub and down to the Walton Arms.

Then it is back through Clayton up to Accrington, turning left opposite the Hare and Hounds and up, past Accrington Stanley FC, turning left at the traffice lights and then left again up Thorneyholme Road for a sprint finish.

T-shirts are available to all finishers with spot prizes as well.

Last year's winner was Paul Freary in fast-for-the-conditions 33 minutes and one second with Clayton-le-Moors Harriers runner Aaron Hargreaves 33 seconds behind him.

People can enter on the day at Highams Playing fields with the race headquarters on the pavillion from 8.30am.

The cost, to enter before Sunday, is £6 for club runners and £8 for unattached.

On the day it is £7.50 for club runners and £9.50 for unattached.
