ACCRINGTON athletics stars Robbie Schofield and Leigh Lennon are gunning for Great Britain at the weekend.

The two middle distance runners have been selected to compete at the prestigious Loughborough International.

Robbie, 18, was selected as he is number one in Great Britain over 800m in the Under 20s age group.

Leigh, 17, is in the the top two in the UK over the two lap event in the Under 20s age group and she will compete in the 4x400m for GB and 800m by invitation.

They will face students from Loughborough University, Great Britain Students and top runners from Scotland and Wales.

"It is a great honour for both of them to represent their country," said coach Don Lennon.

"They are going to don the British vest and it is such a big stage in their careers."

Leigh, a beauty student at Accrington and Rossendale College, and Clitheroe Grammar School pupil Robbie are Olympic 2012 hopefuls and their athletics summer season has now started in earnest.

Leigh, whose personal best over 800m is two minutes and seven seconds, has represented England before.

For Robbie, whose best over the two lap event is one minute and 50 seconds, it is the first time he has been selected to wear an international vest.
