TALENTED runner Leigh Lennon admits it will be a dream come true if she and Robbie Schofield can win gold medals at the Sainsbury’s English Schools Track and Field Championships this weekend.

Leigh and Robbie, both 17 and from Accrington, are favourites to clinch a gold medal in the 800m at Gatehead International Stadium, where they are representing Lancashire - even though they are both at the bottom of their senior age groups.

And, as if that wasn’t enough pressure, the duo are also trying to run personal bests in order to gain a qualifying time for the Commonwealth Youth Games which will be held in India later this year.

"I will be surprised if I win but it would be a dream come true," said Leigh, who has picked up a bronze and a silver medal so far at the English Schools Championships in the younger age groups.

Olympic hopeful Leigh has, though, been getting tips from the best as she is one of the runners which got an invite to go "On Camp with Kelly" where double Olympic medallist Kelly Holmes has been training her.

"She rings me every week. I have learnt a lot about being a more professional athlete," added Leigh.

Both Leigh and Robbie have already competed in the World Junior Trials this year at Bedford where both runners - who were up against 18 and 19-year-olds - finished sixth.

But they got impressive times with Robbie racing the two lap event in one minute and 52 seconds - his personal best - and Leigh got 2.09.

Leigh, who is studying beauty therapy at Accrington and Rossendale College, has got to run 2.06 before 11 August while Robbie, at Clitheroe Grammar, needs 1.51.5 to qualifying for India. The Schools’ Championships will be live on Sky Sports.
