SNOOKER ace Chris Norbury will be able to have top-notch practise sessions after striking up a sponsorship deal with Sovereign Leisure.

The Accrington-based company makes a full range of championship snooker and pool tables and as Chris, ranked World No 66, has one in his house that will be kept up to scratch.

"They sponsored me last year and it is a big help," said Chris, who lives in Accrington.

"It isn't cheap to have your snooker table re-covered so it is a definite bonus for me."

William Seaton, director of Sovereign Leisure which is based in Victoria Business Centre, said: "Accrington used to be the home of snooker manufacturing with Rileys but they have moved on and we are now the only company in Accrington to fully manufacture snooker and pool tables.

"We wanted to give something back to snooker and that's why we have sponsored Chris. "It is an Accrington partnership. We will sponsor him and he will have our logo on his waistcoast for competitions - and if he gets to any televised stages it will be good for the company.

"Hopefully Chris has a big future in the game and we hope we can play a part in him going onwards and upwards."

The snooker season has just started for Chris and he played in his first ranking event in the Northern Ireland Trophy at the end of July, beating Mark Boyle 5-3 in the first round before losing to Rory McLeod 5-3.

His next competition is a Grand Prix event at the end of September in Prestatyn.
