ACCRINGTON Stanley's relentless summer team building continued with two new signings ahead of next season's Nationwide Conference assault.

The Reds have landed former Stalybridge Celtic goalkeeper Craig Dootson and Blackpool trainee Darren Connell, who agreed moves to the UniBond Premier League champions.

The pair join former Burnley veterans Paul Cook and Gordon Armstrong, who have already signed one-year deals. And manager John Coleman admitted more players could join his squad before the season begins. I've been speaking to quite a few who are keen to come here, which is very encouraging," he said.

Coleman also praised the loyalty of many of his current players who agreed to stay at Accrington for the coming campaign. He said: "It was very important for us to keep a large proportion of the squad which won us promotion because our team spirit was first-class and I want to keep that. The team is now coming together very nicely and I'm happy with our preparations so far."

Coleman is confident his Conference newcomers have a realistic chance of promotion next May. We just really want to enjoy it," he said. "We will all be going to new places and playing at better grounds. It will be a season of great adventure - for both the club and the fans."

Stanley have already organised a four-match pre-season programme with Football League and non-league clubs.

  • Stanley have sold a record number of season tickets since they went on sale earlier this month.

Chairman Eric Whalley told the club's website: "We are absolutely delighted. It shows that people are really behind us as we prepare for our first season of Nationwide Conference football."

He said: "Unfortunately the gate prices will rise next season with the step up to a higher level of football. However, we have tried to reward our regular supporters by making season tickets excellent value for money."

Season tickets include entry to all first-team Nationwide Conference matches, reserve team Lancashire League matches and youth team LFA under-18 Floodlit League matches.

There is also a patrons' ticket which includes a matchday programme and half-time refreshments in the sponsors' lounge.

Season tickets cost from £15 for children under 12 to £1,000 for life membership. For more information contact the club on 383235 or 397867.
