BAXENDEN skipper Dave Usher couldn't believe it after his side made 243-1 - and still lost to Barnoldswick.

Usher celebrated his first ton of the season with an unbeaten 104 and his opening partnership with pro Jon Harvey (101) was 199.

"243 was the highest score since I have been at Baxenden and I guess with that you would expect to win especially as they had 45 overs in the heat. Jon and I put on nearly 200 and I think the biggest partnership we have put on before that is 170."

"But their pro came out and smashed it all over. The disappointment is that we dropped him on 30 and I am 99 per cent sure we would have won the match if we had caught him."

"It seems to be a habit we have got into of dropping opposition pros and we have got to get that right."

Jon Harvey is leaving the club at the end of the season as Baxenden look for a bowling pro.

"We haven't got the best bowling attack. If you look at the bonus points we have got, we have got six - the top teams have got 20, which is three wins."

"Jon is mainly a batting pro and he has been fantastic for us. He has spent four years here and has about 750 runs this season and 50-odd wickets. He spent five years at Earby before that and that is testament to what a good club pro he is. It is not for his performances that he is leaving us. It is just a case of a change and looking for a bowling pro to help out our attack."

"We have young bowlers like Nick Warburton and Gary Sudworth but they have had to be schooled in the first team, they have not had time to learn. They have got ability though and they will be stronger next year."
