ACCRINGTON got the unwanted record of 16 straight Lancashire League defeats - but managed to stop there in last weekend's double header.

The Thorneyholme Road side took a two-year-old record off near neighbours Rishton with the agonising three run loss to Enfield on Saturday.

But they finally gave their players and fans something to celebrate by pulling off a huge shock and beating title hopefuls Nelson on Sunday to record their first win of the season.

"We didn't know how to celebrate as we hadn't won for so long," said chairman Rod Kenyon.

"Now we have to hope to celebrate a second win against Haslingden on Sunday and hope someone else will take the record for 16 straight league defeats off us next season."
