White Ash School in Hyndburn won two medals as more than 150 budding Rebecca Adlingtons and Michael Phelps took to the water for the SPAR Lancashire Youth Games Swimming Gala.
The 2010 swimming gala was staged at Salt Ayre Sports Centre in Lancaster and was organised by Lancashire School Sport Partnerships competition managers and Lancashire Sport Partnership, the strategic County Sports Partnership for Lancashire.
There were 12 special schools competing in the event in two separate categories for youngsters with moderate learning difficulties (MLD) and severe learning difficulties (SLD).
Jane Sheridan, senior competition manager at Lancashire School Sport Partnerships, said: "The special schools swimming gala was the third event of the 2010 SPAR Youth Games Programme, which offers youngsters a great opportunity to get involved and progress in sport. We hope the swimming gala has inspired them to work hard and ultimately do the best they possibly can."
During the gala the pupils took part in several competitions, including front crawl, breast stroke, back stroke and relay races over 25m and 50m.
Adrian Leather, chief executive of Lancashire Sport Partnership, added: "Congratulations go to all the young people who took part in the swimming gala and showed real determination and effort but more importantly they all had fun.
"They all did their best and they are not only a credit to themselves but their schools and the local districts they were representing."
