NONE of Hyndburn’s three Ribblesdale League sides had a fully successful double-header last weekend.
Both Great Harwood and Baxenden won one and lost one, while Oswaldtwistle Immanuel went down to two defeats in the face of a flurry of opposition centurions.
BAXENDEN enjoyed a success over newcomers Brinscall on Saturday, restricting the visitors to 157-8 at Back Lane – Gary Sudworth 4-58 – and getting home with three wickets intact, largely thanks to a Danny Mills half-century and 42 from Matthew Schofield.
But there was disappointment on Sunday as Baxenden went down by five wickets to Read.
Professional Mohamed Asif Iqbal hit 61 but he had little support as the home side could only post 155.
Bash winkled four of Read’s top four out cheaply but found overseas stand-in man Rudi Second invincible and his unbeaten 94 was always going to be a match-winner.
Bash remain seventh in the table, though, three points behind Read and one ahead of Salesbury.
GREAT HARWOOD continued their fine run with a comprehensive beating of neighbours Whalley but the Cliffe Lane men went down to a shock defeat at Brinscall on Sunday. Their 203 all out was good enough against Whalley.
A true all-amateur effort had several contributors after overseas man Jack Wildermuth fell for a first-ball duck.
Former Lowerhouse man Jack Edgar just missed out on a 50 on debut and Whalley were bowled out for 114.
On Sunday, as Harwood paid a first visit to Brinscall, opener Edgar was again out in the 40s, scoring 47, as did Russell Whalley in a total of 141.
But when Whalley was out the last four wickets tumbled unforgivably for the addition of just a single with a good few overs utterly wasted.
The home team punished Harwood’s wastefulness and got to their target with four wickets and plenty of overs left, despite Edgar demonstrating his all-round value by taking 4-46.
However, the points garnered from Saturday’s win were enough to lift Harwood above Whalley into second, although they are now 17 points behind leaders Clitheroe instead of nine.
OSWALDTWISTLE IMMANUEL could not contain Cherry Tree skipper Mark Hadfield and overseas man Ruane Sadler on Saturday.
The pair shared a massive stand at New Lane after Immanuel had got rid of one opener and saw the other retire, having lost a contact lens, but both Hadfield (122) and Sadler (116) helped themselves to three figures.
Neil Weaver picked up four wickets but at quite a cost (68) and Immanuel were always going to struggle to overhaul the visitors’ 282-6 and although they made a fist of it, they finished just out of bonus-point range on 229-8. Daniel Metcalf made a fine 88 and Oliver Jones 44.
On Sunday it was Salesbury pro Susantha Pradeep who took toll of the Immanuel bowling with 102 of his side’s 227 all out (Andreas Sudnik 4-41, Oliver Jones 4-42).
An Immanuel side depleted by the late nature of the fixture rearrangement could only make 199-7 in reply, Jones top-scoring with 48 as they dropped one place to ninth.
