Accrington Stanley midfielder Scott Brown is urging the rest of the squad to try and forget about last season’s heartbreak and focus on staging another promotion push during the next campaign.

Brown committed his future to Stanley recently after signing a new two-year deal with the club.

It comes just weeks after the Reds came

agonisingly close to earning promotion to League One, but Brown insists it’s time they now forget about that and concentrate on the future.

“We have to put last season behind us now. At the start of every season, you have just got to look forward and now we have got to aim to get ourselves in the mix again and build on what we did last year and add just that little bit more,” he told the club’s official website.

“Just missing out the way we did last season hurt for a couple of weeks, but the gaffer spoke to everyone straight away and, after everything was ironed out, I was happy to sign.

“Come the end of the season, there were other options and opportunities put in front of me but I’ve enjoyed my time.

“I have enjoyed working with the gaffer and Jimmy, they enjoy their football and get the best out of players.

“They build you up so it makes you play for them, and I am happy to be a part of that for the next two years.

“Two years gives me security, I am a single dad, and so it gives me some stability. I am a great believer in that, if it’s not broke don’t try and fix it, and I am happy here.”

Accrington exceeded all expectations by challenging for promotion, and Brown believes the rest of the teams in the division will now be fully aware of what his team are capable of.

“I think the way we played last season, we earned the respect of a lot of people,” he said.

“On our day we were the best football team in the league and we know people will respect us more this season and we expect it to be tighter.

“We were entertaining, we scored in every home game last season, except the last one against Stevenage and that’s the one that killed us.

“We had good players signed up already and others from last season may sign up and then the additions the gaffer makes I am sure will be able to push us that little bit further.

“We want to put it what happened last season right and I am glad to have the chance to do that. We are back on June 30th for pre-season and we have got unfinished business.”
