Here at CityLife, we love two things: late nights, and moody movies.

So imagine the trill squeal we made when we learnt of Cornerhouse’s noir-athon: a 24-hour straight show-reel of classic noir movies being shown in their large cinema this weekend.

The mind-bending mission of watching 11 arthouse films back to back begins at 2pm tomorrow.

It starts with Double Indemnity – Billy Wilder’s 1940s classic staring Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck, and the film that kicked off the idea of the new art show also opening at the gallery tomorrow.

But this murderous drama of deceit and devious plans is just the first of many tasty moments chosen by high profile creative types.

The lads from Everything Everything picked out Brick, a Sundance winning teen movie about death and drug dealing and the troubled life of an isolated adolescent, while the director of film at the British Council, Briony Hanson, has selected Rita Hayworth’s staring moment in Gilda – a menage a trois being shown in its digitally remastered form.

The Killers, Stray Dog, Bound, Wild Things, Night Moves, Insomnia and Out Of The Past take the screenings into Sunday morning, while The Big Sleep (starring Humphrey Bogart as a private eye with a big personal problem) is the final film at midday on Sunday.

The noir doesn’t end there, though. Throughout December, Cornerhouse screens several other classics and hosts evening courses.

Cornerhouse, tomorrow/Sunday, £44/£38.50 concs, four screenings £22/£20. For a full schedule and tickets, visit cornerhouse.org .
