Budding charity walkers are being encouraged to register ahead of the annual Rotary Club of Church and Oswaldtwistle walk.

There are less than two months to go before Hyndburn’s grand charity walk, which has raised a staggering £350,000 for charities in its seven-year history.

Press officer Michael Jackson encouraged people to register now.

He said: “Our charity walk has proved a resounding success for raising valuable funds - whether it be a national charity for example Cancer Research, NSPCC or a local group such as your church fund, local football club, scout or guide group. The list is endless.

“Last year 91 members of Rishton United Football Club completed the walk, raising significant funds for the club, and this year they hope to have another grand turnout, to help finance a new clubhouse and ground improvements in partnership with Norden High School. "

This year’s event will take place on Sunday, May 19, starting at 9.30am.

The seven-mile walk is circular, starting and finishing at Junction 7 near the Dunkenhalgh Hotel and covers four miles along the Leeds-Liverpool canal and three miles along the old Great Harwood railway track and surrounding countryside. There are some historic landmarks to be observed along the route. This year, to add interest a full description will be given to the walkers before they embark on the journey.

Participants can walk either as an individual or as a group, which tends to be more fun. Cash prizes will be awarded for walkers in fancy dress.

Registration is £5 for each adult and accompanied children under 12 years old walk free.
