Last month’s decision to cut nine area councils across Hyndburn was met with outrage by residents at the first meeting of Oswaldtwistle’s new area forum. The forum was meeting for the first time since the area councils were scrapped as a cost saving measure.
In total Labour won five of the six seats on offer, although Conservative big-hitter Peter Britcliffe managed to hold his Oswaldtwistle seat with 1,566 votes, as Labour replaced the biggest party in Lancashire with No Overall Control.
