ASPIRE: Reds’ fans walk tall for Aspire

ACCRINGTON Stanley fans were walking tall after donating £1,000 to the Observer’s Aspire fund.

BOOST ... Coronation Street actor Sean Wilson who plays Martin Platt in the TV soap is pictured with John Timmins, Stephen Lowe and Gary Collier who all took part in the walk raising £1,000 for Aspire.

ACCRINGTON Stanley fans were walking tall after donating £1,000 to the Observer’s Aspire fund.

They presented the cheque to Aspire officials at half-time during Stanley’s defeat to Barnet on Saturday.

Sean Wilson, also known as Coronation Street’s Martin Platt, was brought to the game by walk organiser Steve Lowe a Radio Lancashire presenter.

Steve had interviewed Sean on his show and he is patron of a charity to build schools in Nepal.

Sixty Stanley fans walked 18 miles from Accrington to Rochdale for their game last month to raise £3,000 to build a school for Sean’s charity and the rest was donated to the St John’s Church Appeal.

Steve said: "I am very proud. We raised a lot of money and it was a high point of the day presenting the cheque at half-time."
