A calf had to be rescued in the early hours of this morning after getting stuck in a canal.

Firefighters from Hyndburn were called to the Leeds-Liverpool Canal in Clayton-le-Moors after the calf got stuck in mud.

They set up lighting units and used ropes and a harness to rescue the calf, which was unharmed.

The incident happened at around 3.45am on Friday, August 28.

A Hyndburn fire station spokesman said they were alerted by a dog walker and were at the scene for 45 minutes.
