BATTLING tot Rieli Biggins is facing a fight for life after being diagnosed with leukaemia.
The devastated family of the three-year-old were told the news last month after he underwent blood tests.
He had been ill since January but was not diagnosed until May.
Rieli, of Cambridge Street, Accrington, was rushed to Pendlebury Hospital in Manchester where he began intensive chemotherapy treatment, forcing him to stay in hospital for three weeks.
Now his caring cousin Paige Grimshaw-Rosbotham, 12, of Spencer Street, Accrington, has vowed to help Rieli and his family who were forced to cancel their holiday so his treatment could continue.
Each week, Rieli has to return to hospital for bone marrow and lumbar puncture tests.
So Paige and 10 of her friends have organised a sponsored walk at Arden Hall on Sunday with the aim of raising money so little Rieli can go to Disney World with his mum Jade, 20.
When Paige told her mum Kelly and dad Ivan what she wanted to do for Rieli, they were both delighted.
Kelly said: "We didn’t really know what to say. We know she and her brother Mackenzie are close to Rieli but we never expected this.
"She regularly takes Rieli and her other cousin and brother to the park so they spend a lot of time together."
Moorhead pupil Paige has asked all her teachers and family friends for help, and dozens have pledged their support.
Kelly said: "She has done all the organising, made the sponsorship forms and is really motivated to make it all happen. She has raised £150 already."
Grandma Sharon Flood, 40, who lives with Rieli and Jade, said: "I couldn’t believe it when Kelly told me.
"She has done so much work already and all on her own. It’s been a difficult time for Jade and Rieli and they appreciate the support of family and friends so much. Paige is a lovely girl."
As Jade works during the day, Sharon, who is currently recovering from a hysterectomy, spends her time looking after Rieli.
She said: "He is normally a bouncy and bubbly boy and loves to play but the chem-otherapy has made him weak. It’s heartbreaking to see him."
Sunday’s walk for Rieli begins at 12.30pm at Arden Hall off Plantation Street.
Sharon has also organised a fund-raiser for Rieli which will be held at the Sydney Street WMC on Saturday 26 July. For more information contact her on 398683.
