AN ACCRINGTON primary school has been graded as ”good” in all major areas by Ofsted inspectors.

The inspectors, who visited Hyndburn Park Primary School in the week beginning 5 November, said it provided “good value for money”.

They reported: “It is equally successful in nurturing pupils’ personal qualities and ensuring they make good progress with their work.

“A very friendly caring environment, much appreciated by parents, gives pupils the confidence to enjoy their learning.”

The report says that pupils achieve well throughout the school, though standards are below average by the end of Year Six.

It added: “Leaders have adopted a rigorous approach to identifying and tackling where development is needed, and there are high expectations of the standards pupils should reach.

“Teaching is good in most lessons and a wide range of interesting, practical tasks encourages pupils to be enthusiastic learners.”

The inspectors go on: “Good leadership and management are enabling the school to improve further. The headteacher’s clear vision for the school and the pupils is the driving force for improvement.

“He is well supported by a skilled leadership team, who have a clear picture of the challenges facing the school and a strong focus on raising standards.”

Mr John Boden, head of the 510-pupil school, said: “It is a very fair report that comments well on the good work we do. Our pupils work and try hard and the school enjoys good support from the parents. I am very pleased.

“A parent commented to Ofsted that the school always goes the exrtra mile and that is a fine summary of our approach.”

Chairman of governors, Councillor Len Dickinson, thanked the inspectors for their good report, the head and his staff for their hard work and the parents for their support over the years.
