DIANE Sayer was blown away when her friends planned an extra-special surprise for her 40th birthday.

For the mum-of-four was treated to a private brass band concert... right on her front doorstep.

The Barnsley-based Tom Roberts Strolling Jazz Band called at Diane's home in New Lane, Oswaldtwistle, early on Tuesday morning for the birthday surprise.

Her colleagues at Clayton Park Print Finishers, where Diane is a receptionist, had organised the novel treat after one of their suppliers, Wakefield-based Chris Barrett, came up with the idea.

Office manager Jane Timlin said: "Chris knew that Diane's birthday was coming up and he wanted to do something a little bit different that she would never have thought of."

"It all went really well - about seven of us went over from work and some of the neighbours also came out to watch. Diane couldn't believe it - she was really shocked."

Jane added that she had also made a special banner urging drivers to beep their horns in honour of Diane's birthday and workers at the firm put it up at the house while Diane slept.

Diane said: "It was a complete surprise and I was really pleased. I guessed that they may have made a banner but no-one expects a brass band outside their house at 8.30 in the morning."

She added that she also received an unexpected gift of a red Porsche from her husband, John, the managing director of Clayton Park - as well as enjoying a surprise party at home on Saturday evening.

The couple live with their four children, Tom, 16, Scott, 15, Jacob, 13, and Luke, 12, who all joined in with the celebrations.
