Sign our petition to save Hyndburn's libraries

Show your support for keeping open libraries in Accrington, Oswaldtwistle, Rishton, Great Harwood and Clayton-le-Moors

Your library needs you!

That is the battle cry from the Accrington Observer this week as we launch our campaign to save our libraries from the axe.

Libraries across Hyndburn and Rossendale could be shut down as part of severe cuts being proposed by council chiefs.
Lancashire County Council (LCC) has warned it may have to close half of its libraries and that none are safe from the axe.
Five in Hyndburn could go, Accrington, Oswaldtwistle, Rishton, Great Harwood and Clayton-le-Moors.

We have launched a petition to show the depth of feeling against the plans.

You can sign our petition here.

LCC says one library in each of its 12 district council areas would meet its statutory obligations.

We say that libraries play a vital role in our communities, from giving people young and old access to books, acting as a community hub and providing community spaces for local groups.

Editor Gareth Tidman said: "Please sign the petition to show your opposition to these plans.

"We understand the county council is facing severe financial pressures, but to strip our communities of these vital community facilities is not the answer."
