Students at Hollins Technology College in Accrington have been appraising their GCSE results, received today.

Ella Aldred-Aymen, 16, from Accrington got four A* in religious studies, English language, design technology and French, and six As.

She said: “They are better than I thought and I’m just really, really happy with them.

“It’s been horrible waiting for this day to come and I couldn’t really sleep last night as I was nervous.”

She will now study A Levels in biology, maths, physics and textiles at St Christopher’s High School sixth form in Accrington.

Head Boy George Polvani, 16, from Accrington, achieved three A*s in religious studies, design technology and PE and seven As.

He said: “To get all As and not get any grades below is fantastic.

“I did a lot of hard work and I was nervous about whether it would be effective and worthwhile but thankfully it was.

“I was nervous before I went on holiday and when I was away I was fine but as soon as I got back the pressure was on.

“It’s been brilliant at The Hollins and the teachers have been so helpful.”

George will now study A Levels in psychology, biology, PE and chemistry at St Christopher’s High School in Accrington.

Amy Maden, 16, from Baxenden, achieved six A*s in religious studies, English language, art, graphics, French and maths and four As.

She said: “I thought I might have got a few Bs but I haven’t which is great.

“I’m really glad with my maths grade as that’s my strong point but overall I’m really happy.

“I’ve been trying to put off thinking about today but I knew I had worked hard so I wasn’t dreading it as much.

“I didn’t want to cry but when I opened my results I did as I wasn’t expecting them.”

She will now study A Levels in maths, further maths, French and law at St Christopher’s High School sixth form in Accrington.

Amy added: “I know I want to go to university but I don’t know what career path I want yet.

“I’m looking forward to starting at St Christopher’s as it’s local and I know it gets good A Levels.”

Aiden Hargreaves, 16, from Accrington, got five A*s in religious studies, English language, additional science, PE and history, three As and one B.

He said: “I’m amazed. I can’t believe it. I worked hard but I never realised I was going to get something like this.

“My mum said if I get three A*s we can go out but I have got five. It’s unreal.

“I’m delighted to get an A in maths and an A* in English language as I have been getting Bs and Cs in those.

“I’ve tried not to think about results day but I woke up very early this morning as I was so nervous.”

Aiden will now study A Levels in biology, chemistry, physics and politics at Clitheroe Grammar School.

He added: “I don’t really know yet what I want to do yet but maybe medicine.

“It’s been really good here (at The Hollins) and they have really helped me along the way.

“Whenever I was struggling in maths, which is my weakest, they helped me and it’s paid off.”

Abigail Bradwell, 16, from Baxenden, passed all 10 GCSEs including an A in art and Bs in design technology, maths and engineering.

She will now become an apprentice for the National Grid based in Nottingham and will start in two weeks.

She said: “It has been a long wait and a lot of weeks but it’s been worth it.

“I was quite nervous this morning and I’ve tried not to think about it.

“After I’ve done my apprenticeship I hope to stay in the business and move up.”

Her twin sister Zoe Bradwell, 16, from Baxenden, will now become a apprentice at BT based in Accrington after achieving four As, including religious studies, English language, design technology and maths, and four Bs.

She said: “I’m a bit scared but I’m really looking forward to it.

“I was thinking about going to sixth form but I’m happy with this. I only found out two days ago about the apprenticeship.

“It got a little scary in the last few days waiting for the results but they are good and I’m happy.”

Becky Gregson, 16, from Accrington, will study A Levels at St Mary’s College in Blackburn after getting six A*s in religious studies, core science, additional science, electronics, geography and maths, three As and two Bs.

She said: “I’m really happy as some of the exams were tough with harsh questions. I’ve been really nervous and anxious.

“I either want to become a history teacher or a psychologist.”

Aspiring primary school teacher Chloe Farrell, 16, from Accrington, got seven As and two Bs and will now study A Levels at St Christopher’s High School in Accrington.

She said: “I’m so happy with my grades. I got a B in Spanish which I wasn’t expecting as I though I would get a D. I’m also really pleased with my A in history.

“I have been on edge the last few weeks so I’m looking forward to enrolling today and then celebrating.

“After sixth form I’d like to train to become a primary school teacher.”
