A clothing shop is on fire in Accrington town centre.

Firefighters from Hyndburn and Burnley were called to Church Street at around 1.30pm following a fire Alisha’s Fashions.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said the building is heavily smoke-logged and crews are working at the scene to put the fire out.

A large crowd of shoppers and workers had gathered at the scene and alerted the fire service.

Lancashire Police confirmed they were called to the scene at 1.30pm.

A spokesperson said a full road closure has been put along Church Street from Blackburn Road near the Market Hall to Holme Street.

John Taylor, of the Lancashire Fire and rescue Service, said: "There was a fire at the premises and smoke was seen pouring out of the building.

"Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using hosereel jets.

"The people inside at the time managed to get out without injury and there were no casualties.

"The cause of fire and what caught fire is still to be confirmed."
