Accrington Stanley have signed Craig Roddan in time for Sunday's FA Cup first-round tie against Notts County.

The midfielder, who had a spell on loan with the Reds last season, was a free agent after being released by Liverpool in the summer.

The 21-year-old has been training with the Reds for the last few weeks and has done enough to earn a short-term deal at the Store First Stadium.

“He’s impressed with his attitude in training,” said manager John Coleman. “He played against Manchester United the other week (in the Lancashire Senior Cup) and played really well and I think he can offer us something different.

“It’s important to have him with Anthony Barry suffering an injury at the moment. It’s a chance for him to have another go and I know he’s keen to take it.

“We have to fill a hole in our squad and he fits the bill. I’ve got no problems with playing him if I have to.”

Roddan goes straight into the squad for Sunday’s trip to Meadow Lane.

Barry was due to see a specialist this week after suffering a knee injury in the recent draw at Newport, which was his first start since rejoining the Reds on loan from Forest Green.
