ACCRINGTON Stanley held a minutes silence before their game against MK Dons on Saturday for their oldest attending fan John Brayley who died last week aged 93.

John started watching the Reds with his dad when he was just eight years old and, in later years, braved all kinds of weather to watch Stanley.

He always stood in his favourite place - the far corner of the Clayton End - and received a standing ovation at a dinner in the Town Hall to celebrate Stanley's promotion to the Nationwide Conference.

John was a season ticket holder and was taken to all the home matches by John Davis.

And he even made a couple of away trips, going to Southport last season in sub-zero temperatures.

Pensioner John described the Reds promotion back to the Football League as a high point in his life.
