GREAT Harwood Town, who entertain Chadderton tomorrow (Kick-off 2pm), had a mixed bag of results over Christmas.
On Boxing Day they beat title-chasing neighbours Padiham 3-1 in a derby game in which all the goals came in the first half. It was Town's 100th victory in the North West Counties League.
But they rather blotted their copybook by losing 5-0 away to Holker Old Boys on Saturday. John Eastham gave Town a 14th minute lead against Padiham but the visitors soon hit back with an equaliser from Pilkington on 20 minutes. Richard Fogarty restored Harwood's lead on 26 minutes and added a third two minutes from half-time.
John Hughes' side were hit by a three-goal blast in eight first half minutes against Holker, the rout begun by a Murphy penalty on 26 minutes.
Two more goals in the second half completed a miserable day in front of a paltry 50 spectators and manager Hughes blasted his players, calling the performance "a disgrace."
Defender Steve Pickup and winger Sean Bursnall have both moved to Nelson, where former Harwood Town boss Dennis Underwood is the new manager.
Great Harwood Town will be away to strugglers Oldham Town in the Quarter-Finals of the Second Division Trophy, the tie to take place on Saturday 1 February. They have added Nicholas Eatough and James Thompson to their squad as well as re-signing midfielder Warren Peake.
